FAQs

🐾 General Information about CHIPSI Products

What Makes CHIPSI Litter So Special?

CHIPSI stands for natural litter made from plant-based raw materials – low in dust, highly absorbent, and odor-binding. Our products promote animal welfare, are hygienic, environmentally friendly, and sustainably produced. For a clean home where your animal feels completely comfortable.

Which CHIPSI Litter Is Suitable for My Pet?

CHIPSI offers the right litter for every animal – whether soft, highly absorbent, low in dust, or naturally fragrant. CHIPSI SUPER or ASPEN are suitable for sensitive noses, while CHIPSI ULTRA is ideal for animals that enjoy digging. On our animal page, you will find recommendations for your pet.

What Is the Difference Between Litter, Under-Litter, and Top-Litter?

Litter is the main layer in the enclosure and ensures cleanliness and comfort. Under-litter is used as the first layer and absorbs moisture particularly well. Top-litter is placed on top – it is usually particularly soft or fragrant and provides an extra feel-good factor for your animal.

🌱 Sustainability & Materials

What Are CHIPSI Products Made Of?

CHIPSI products are made from natural raw materials such as wood, hemp, corn, or cellulose. They are plant-based, free of harmful substances, and processed in an environmentally friendly manner – completely without chemical additives. The packaging contains 30% recyclate, i.e., recycled plastic – for less plastic and more sustainability.

Are CHIPSI Products Biodegradable?

All CHIPSI products are made of plant-based materials and are therefore biodegradable. Depending on regional regulations, you can even dispose of them in the organic waste bin or compost. This completes the natural cycle – good for your animal and good for the environment.

Where Does the Wood for CHIPSI Litter Come From?

The wood for our litter products comes from sustainable, certified forestry – mainly from local forests. We only use by-products of wood processing, not freshly cut trees. This conserves resources and ensures a natural origin.

🧼 Hygiene & Application

How Often Should I Change the Litter?

Check the damp areas daily and remove heavily soiled areas. A complete change is recommended about once a week – more often depending on the size of the animal, enclosure, and number of animals. This keeps your animal’s home hygienic, dry, and pleasant.

How High Should the Litter Layer Be?

A layer of about 5 cm is a good guideline – but it should be significantly more for diggers like hamsters or rabbits. A thick layer of litter keeps it dry, provides activity, and promotes natural behavior: digging, scratching, hiding – like in their own little burrow.

Can I Combine Different CHIPSI Litter Types?

Yes – many CHIPSI litter types can be wonderfully combined. You can, for example, use a particularly absorbent under-litter such as CHIPSI SUPER and add a soft or fragrant top layer. This ensures optimal hygiene and a pleasant feel-good climate for your animal.

♻️ Disposal & Environment

How Do I Dispose of the Used Litter Correctly?

CHIPSI products are biodegradable and can be disposed of – depending on the municipality – via the compost, the organic waste bin, or in small quantities also via the toilet. It is best to check with your municipality. Important: do not dispose of any plastic bags!

Is the Scented Litter (e.g., Citrus or Green Apple) Also Natural?

Yes – the fragrances in our litter types such as Citrus or Green Apple come from natural aromas. They provide a pleasant freshness in the animal’s home without artificial additives. The fragrance intensity is deliberately chosen to be gentle so that even sensitive animal noses feel comfortable.

❀️ Animal Welfare & Compatibility

Which CHIPSI Products Are Suitable for Sensitive Animals?

For sensitive animals such as allergy sufferers or species with fine fur, we recommend particularly low-dust litter types – e.g., CHIPSI SUPER, CLEAN, or ASPEN. They are free of fragrances and additives and offer a hygienic, gentle environment for sensitive noses and paws.

Why Is Good Litter So Important for My Animal?

Litter not only ensures hygiene but also comfort, retreat, and natural behavior. It protects against moisture, binds odors, and offers opportunities for scratching, digging, or nest building. The right litter means more quality of life and well-being for your animal.

πŸ“¦ Application & Handling

How Do I Best Store CHIPSI Products?

CHIPSI products should be stored dry, cool, and well-sealed – preferably in the original bag or in a clean storage container. This keeps the litter free-flowing, hygienic, and fresh. Please avoid moisture and direct sunlight.

Can I Also Use CHIPSI Litter for Outdoor Enclosures or Stable Housing?

Yes – many CHIPSI products are ideal for outdoor housing. Variants such as CHIPSI FAMILY or MAIS are particularly robust, absorbent, and hygienic – even with changing temperatures. Ensure a dry base and a protected location outdoors.

How Do I Prevent My Animal From Spreading the Litter Throughout the Room?

You can use a heavier litter type such as CHIPSI MAIS – it stays better in the enclosure and is less likely to be carried out. Digging boxes, enclosures with high edges, or run mats also help to keep the area around the enclosure clean.

πŸ›’ Products & Variants

How Do the Different CHIPSI Variants Differ?

Each CHIPSI litter type has special properties – e.g., extra absorbent, particularly low in dust, or pleasantly soft. CHIPSI SUPER is ideal for hygiene fans, ASPEN for sensitive animals. On our website, you will find the right variant for housing, animal species, and preferences.

Is There Also Litter for Young Animals or Particularly Small Animals?

Yes – for young animals or small species with sensitive paws, we recommend particularly soft, fine, and low-dust litter types. CHIPSI CAREFRESH or ASPEN FINE are ideal: They are gentle, low in odor, and offer a safe environment in which even the smallest feel comfortable and protected.

🌍 Origin, Quality & Environment

Where Is CHIPSI Manufactured?

CHIPSI products come from the family-owned company J. Rettenmaier & SΓΆhne, based in Rosenberg. For 147 years, plant-based products have been created here with a great deal of experience, care, and modern technology, ensuring that animals, people, and nature are doing well all around.

What Does “Technically Dried” Mean for Some CHIPSI Products?

Technically dried means: After cleaning, the plant fibers are gently dehumidified in special drying systems. This makes the litter particularly hygienic, durable, and free-flowing – and prevents mold and germ formation during storage and use.

What Does PEFC- or FSC-Certified Mean for Wood Litter?

These certificates guarantee that wood comes from responsibly managed forests. Attention is paid to sustainability, biodiversity, and fair working conditions. CHIPSI uses exclusively certified raw materials – for products that are equally good for animals and the environment.

❓ Problem Cases & Special Questions

My Animal Eats Litter – Is That Dangerous?

An occasional nibble is usually harmless – especially with natural litter without additives. Some animals simply try it out of curiosity. If your animal regularly eats litter, it may indicate a nutrient deficiency or boredom – then you should introduce your animal to a veterinarian.

My Animal Avoids the Litter – What Can I Do?

Some animals react sensitively to odors, structure, or dust. Switch to a more neutral, softer litter such as CHIPSI CLEAN or ASPEN ORIGINAL for testing purposes. A gradual change also helps. If the behavior persists, have possible causes clarified by the veterinarian.

Is There a Best-Before Date for CHIPSI Litter?

CHIPSI litter can be used for a long time – with dry, cool storage in the original bag or storage container, it remains hygienic and free-flowing. For single feeds such as hay or straw, a best-before date applies, which is indicated on the packaging.

Is CHIPSI Also Suitable for Special Animals?

Yes – some CHIPSI products are also suitable for special species such as degus or ferrets. When choosing, pay attention to odor neutrality, low dust, and structure. Our animal page helps you with orientation – or ask us under “Contact” or at your local specialist store.

Are There Sample Sizes or Small Packages for Testing?

Some CHIPSI varieties are also available in smaller package sizes – ideal for trying out or for stocking small animal enclosures. You can find them in specialist shops or in many online shops.

Where Can I Buy CHIPSI?

You can get CHIPSI products in well-stocked specialist shops, from many online providers, or in selected supermarkets with a pet department. You can also find a selection here.
