SHEEP

Our domestic sheep are descended from wild species from Asia and America.
The animals feel part of their flock, in which there is a strict hierarchy. The lead sheep is usually an older, female animal that everyone follows blindly.
Sheep are tirelessly on the move all day to find food. When dusk falls, they retreat to a sheltered place where they can ruminate and spend the night undisturbed.

Care recommendation

  • Looking after a flock:
  • A stable building with bedding, and a generous outdoor running area, access to pasture area: min. 8 m²/animal: 2 m² stable area, 6 m² outdoor running area, pasture area, min. 1,500 m² for 3 - 5 animals, escape-proof running area with dry natural soil.
  • Inner fencing in the contact area 0.90 m - 1.00 m high, outer fencing of the pasture higher if necessary (min. 1.20 m).
  • Fencing options (stakes, brushwood?)
  • Weather protection in the pasture
  • Permanent access to fresh drinking water
