Canaries - Singing artist with a burst of freshness

Canaries captivate with their song, their variety of colors, and their active character. They are known not only for their voice but also for their curiosity – and therefore need sufficient space, company, and regular occupation. They feel completely at ease in a lovingly designed environment.

Species-appropriate husbandry – How to make them feel comfortable

Life in a Mini-Flock
Canaries should ideally be kept in small groups or at least in pairs – keeping them alone is not species-appropriate. If there are several pairs, the aviary must be enlarged accordingly.

Aviary with a View
The floor area should be at least 150 × 60 × 100 cm. For up to two additional pairs, 50% more space should be planned. Structure, perches, and visual protection are also necessary.

Daily Free Flight
A free flight space of at least 2 m³ is ideal for up to three pairs – a must for active animals with a great urge to move.

Bathing for the Voice
Fresh bath water is part of the basic equipment – many canaries bathe daily and thus maintain their plumage and well-being.

Cleanliness & Hygiene

🧽 Daily care
🧼 Weekly change
💦 Clean bathrooms

Canaries are very sensitive to dust, germs, and dirty litter. Their small airways need clean air and a hygienic environment.

Freshness Every Day
Food remains, droppings, and dirty water must be removed daily. Cleanliness protects the sensitive airways of canaries.

Basic Cleaning Weekly
The substrate should be changed once a week and the aviary parts cleaned. With a larger stock, more frequent cleaning makes sense.

Hygiene When Bathing
Clean bath water is essential. It promotes plumage care, increases well-being, and contributes to the health of the birds.

Nutrition

🥦 Vegetables & herbs
🧂 Grit & minerals

A good canary feed based on seeds forms the basis. This includes wild herbs, vegetables such as carrots or cucumbers, as well as germ or egg food during moulting and breeding season. Grit, mineral stones, and fresh water are also essential.

Seeds as a Basis
The basis is a good canary feed based on seeds. It provides the birds with energy and important nutrients.

Fresh Food Supplement
Wild herbs, cucumber, or carrot provide variety. In the moulting or breeding season, germ or egg food are important additives.

Secure Minerals
Grit, mineral stones, and fresh water must always be available. They promote digestion, metabolism, and vitality.

Activity

⛰️ Climbing & swinging
🐦 Flying fun
🌿 New branches

Canaries are very active and curious – they love to fly, bathe, and explore their surroundings. Climbing branches, swings, changing seats, and natural materials stimulate movement. Particularly exciting: hidden feeding places and new branches in the flight space.

Active Design
Climbing branches, swings, and varied seating encourage movement and banish boredom in everyday life.

Movement Makes Joy
Free flight is essential for these active birds. It strengthens the muscles, prevents stress, and ensures balance.

Impulses Through Nature
Canaries need new branches, food hiding places, and natural materials. These promote their curiosity and keep them lively and occupied.
