Ferrets - Curious, playful - and always on the go
Species-appropriate husbandry – How to make them feel comfortable
Not solitary animals
Ferrets are very social animals and need at least one other member of their species by their side.
Plenty of room to romp around
The enclosure should be at least 6 m² in size – +1 m² for each additional animal. A minimum height of 1.5 m and several levels offer optimal exercise opportunities.
Sleeping & digging
Each animal needs its own sleeping den (at least 40 × 30 × 30 cm), preferably with soft cotton cloths. Digging boxes with soil, sand or gravel provide species-appropriate activity.

Cleanliness & Hygiene
🧼 Weekly care
🛏️ Fresh sleeping areas
A well-maintained environment is essential for healthy and balanced ferrets. Regular cleaning protects against diseases and keeps the home fresh – especially important with the intensive use of sleeping and toilet corners.
Hygiene every day
The ferret toilet should be cleaned daily. Also remove heavily soiled areas so that the animals remain healthy and satisfied.
Thoroughly once a week
The ground cover and upholstery material must be replaced weekly. This prevents diseases and keeps the enclosure permanently fresh.
Clean rest areas
Since ferrets sleep a lot, well-maintained sleeping areas are very important. Regular cleaning ensures greater hygiene and well-being for the animals.

Nutrition
🥩 High-quality protein
🚫 No fruit or grains
Ferrets are pure carnivores and need high-quality animal protein every day – ideally in the form of special ferret food, pieces of meat or feeder animals. Fruit, vegetables or grains do not belong in the bowl.
Pure carnivores
Since ferrets are carnivores, they need meat every day. This is the only way they can cover their high protein requirements and remain active and healthy.
Protein is crucial
Special feed mixtures for ferrets, pieces of meat or feeder animals are suitable. Animal protein is essential for strength and vitality.
Taboos in the bowl
Fruit, vegetables or grains are unsuitable. Such feed puts a strain on the organism and should not be fed to ferrets.

Activity
🏞️ Adventures in the enclosure
🐾 Time out together
Variety is the be-all and end-all for ferrets: tunnels, hammocks, balls, food hiding places and safe playgrounds make them happy. Daily exercise outside the enclosure is just as important as shared playtime.
Always on the move
Ferrets need variety every day. Tunnels, balls and food hiding places can prevent boredom and avoid unwanted behavior.
Discover new things
Multi-story enclosures with hammocks, tubes and climbing opportunities offer the animals many incentives. Exercise outside the enclosure is also a must.
Playing with people
Ferrets enjoy the company of their owners. Joint play sessions strengthen trust, are fun and strengthen the social bond.
