African Grey Parrots - Intelligent companion with high standards
Species-appropriate husbandry – How to make them feel comfortable
Stronger Together
African Grey Parrots must never be kept alone. Pair housing with same-species, opposite-sex birds is mandatory – this is the only way they can develop psychologically and socially healthy.
Space is Essential
The aviary must be at least 300 × 100 × 200 cm, with a floor area of 4 m². For each additional pair, the area should be increased by 50%. Natural branches, resting places, and gnawing material provide variety.
Daily Free Flight
For two pairs, a free flight area of at least 8 m³ is required – safe, structured, and varied.
Bathing Encouraged
African Grey Parrots love water – regular baths are important for feather care and well-being.

Cleanliness & Hygiene
🧼 Weekly change
💦 Fresh bath water
A clean environment effectively protects these sensitive parrots from infections and stress. Droppings, food, and bathing areas, in particular, must remain hygienic.
Daily Cleanliness
Droppings, food residues, and soiled bowls must be removed daily. Good hygiene protects African Grey Parrots from infections and contributes to their well-being.
Regular Basic Care
The entire substrate should be replaced once a week. For larger groups or heavy soiling, more frequent cleaning is recommended.
Attention to Bathing Areas
Clean water in the bathing area is crucial. Only then can the parrots bathe regularly, care for their plumage, and stay healthy.
