Rosellas - Active flying artist with a powerful beak

Rosellas are lively and intelligent birds known for their curiosity and active nature. They require ample space for flying, climbing, and exploring, as well as a structured environment to promote their well-being.

Species-appropriate husbandry – How to make them feel comfortable

Keeping in Pairs
Rosellas should be kept in pairs at a minimum. Keeping them individually is not species-appropriate and can lead to behavioral disorders.

Spacious Aviary
The aviary should be at least 400 × 100 × 200 cm (L × W × H) in size. For up to two additional pairs, a 50% increase in floor space is required. The setup should include natural branches, perches, and sheltered sleeping areas.

Daily Free Flight
A free flight space of at least 10 m³ is required. The space should be designed to be safe and structured to support their natural need for movement.

Bathing and Sand Facilities
Rosellas require regular bathing opportunities for feather care. Both water and sand baths should always be accessible.

Cleanliness & Hygiene

A clean environment is essential for the health of Rosellas:

Daily Freshness
Food and water containers must be cleaned daily. Bedding and heavily soiled areas should also be removed regularly.

Weekly Deep Cleaning
The substrate should be completely replaced once a week. With many birds or intensive use, more frequent cleaning is advisable.

Hygienic Bathing
Water and sand baths must remain hygienic. Only then can the birds maintain their plumage and stay healthy.

Nutrition

🌾 Grain feed
🥦 Vegetables & fruit
🧂 Minerals & grit

Rosellas require a balanced diet consisting of high-quality seed mix for parakeets, supplemented with fresh vegetables, fruits, and occasional sprouted seeds. Grit and mineral stones aid digestion. Fresh water must always be available.

Seeds as a Base
A high-quality seed mix for parakeets forms the basis. It covers the animals’ energy requirements and matches their natural preferences.

Fresh Food Supplements
Vegetables, fruits, and sprouted seeds provide important vitamins. They promote the animals’ health, vibrant plumage, and vitality.

Ensure Minerals
Grit and mineral stones aid digestion. Fresh water should always be available to the birds.
